Cornovii Silver offers specialist in-person Mitsuro Hikime teaching in Cornwall, from making and handling the wax to preparing your designs for casting and professionally finishing the resulting jewellery.

Japanese Wax Technique for Organic Textured Jewellery

Mitsuro Hikime is a traditional Japanese wax technique that creates beautifully organic texture and sculptural forms.

In this small-group course, I’ll guide you through the process of warming, stretching and shaping the wax, before your piece is professionally cast in the metal of your choice. Most students choose sterling silver but other metals are possible too.

This course is beginner friendly and it’s also a brilliant next step if you’ve done jewellery courses elsewhere and want to deepen your skills with something distinctive.

Who this course is for

This course suits a mix of experience levels. I keep numbers low (maximum 4) so I can support you properly.

It’s ideal if you are:

Completely new but happy to work steadily and follow a clear process
Returning to jewellery-making and want a fresh technique
Already confident at the bench and want to add a specialist skill
Someone who has done courses elsewhere and would like a calmer, more detailed learning experience

You don’t need to call yourself a jeweller to join — curiosity and willingness to learn is enough.

How the course runs

This course runs as:

3 taught sessions (making in wax)
2 weeks casting time (your piece is sent off for professional casting)
1 final session (finishing and refining in metal)

Casting is an extra cost and depends on the metal you choose.
